The Game Awards are nearing, the yearly celebration of the broader video gaming market as the industry congregates the laud the best releases.

Covering launches over the past 12 months, the Geoff Keighley-created celebration doesn’t usually include many driving titles, sad, but in 2021 Forza Horizon 5 and F1 2021 were the representatives of our favourite genre.

This time, it’s EA SPORTS F1 22 and Gran Turismo 7.

The Game Awards 2022, Best Sports and Racing

Both are nominated in the ‘Best Sports/Racing’ category alongside FIFA 23, OlliOlli World and NBS 2K23.

Yes, we believe racing games deserve their own category, but hey, at least they are represented in some form.

Gran Turismo 7 is also nominated for ‘Best Audio Design’, against the likes of God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West, Elden Ring and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.

Last year, Forza Horizon 5 won the same two categories Gran Turismo 7 is up for, plus ‘Innovation in Accessibility’.

However, the category for ‘Best Ongoing’ does not include any motorsport or driving-derived titles – surely iRacing or Automobilista 2 are great examples of continued support?

Meanwhile, in non-racing news, the overall Game of the Year nominees are the aforementioned God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring and Horizon Forbidden West plus A Plague Tale: Requiem, Stray and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

Public voting is now live, to be mixed by panel votes, and the live show will be broadcast online on 8th December.
