Euro Truck Simulator 2’s V1.61 Open Beta adds map and trailer updates

A new build of Euro Truck Simulator 2 has entered Open Beta and is available to download and try now.

V1.61, much like its American Truck Simulator counterpart, is a modest update featuring a few new tweaks to SCS Software’s ever-popular title, including a new proximity exploration mechanic.

This means players no longer need to fastidiously cover every inch of a road for it to count as ‘explored’. This should also help uncover other map items like rest stops and petrol stations.

Further map changes have also been made in anticipation of the upcoming Coaches mode, with improved bus stations now placed in Karlstad, Aarhus and Thessaloniki. A brand-new station also now appears in Heraklion after some major renovations.

In terms of vehicles, the game’s livestock trailers have been overhauled in V1.61, with a new dual-wheeled low chassis variant replacing the old belly-axled iteration. This offers more customisation options, with two chassis variants: a straight three-axle and a lowered three-axle, split between aluminium and paintable body types.

Finally, players who own the Schwarzmüller Trailer Pack DLC will be able to access a fully revised low loading trailer type, plus accessories, to match the brand’s real-world innovations.

To sample ETS 2’s v1.61 Open Beta, right-click on the game icon in your Steam Library, select ‘Properties’, then ‘Betas’ and pick the ‘Public Beta’ option.
