Euro Truck Simulator 2’s v1.57 Open Beta is available to download and play for all players now, adding several new improvements to the game. We’ve outlined the main additions below.
Scandinavia refresh
The maps contained within ETS 2’s Scandinavia DLC have undergone a substantial overhaul to bring them up to developer SCS Software’s modern standards.
Denmark’s capital, Copenhagen, has been rebuilt from the ground up, with two new cities also added: Denmark’s Aarhus and Sweden’s Karlstad. Rest stops, fuel stations, vegetation and roads have all been given a spruce up, including revised textures.
The refresh also prepares the ground for the game’s upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC, which is set to add broader parts of both Sweden and Norway.
HDR Support
ETS 2 now supports high dynamic range (HDR). For users with compatible monitors or TVs, HDR helps increase colour range and contrast ratio, improving overall image quality.
ETS 2 now also has an HDR Calibration feature, allowing players to fine-tune its implementation in-game.
Dynamic cargo unloading and loading
A feature that has been in American Truck Simulator for some time now, dynamic cargo unloading and loading is now being rolled out in ETS 2.
The feature introduces extra animations to the game, which will be rolled out first in the logging industry, with players able to witness the loading and unloading of logs, large tubes and iron pipes.
Set to appear first of all in the Nordic Horizons DLC, plus selected base game locations, dynamic cargo loading and unloading will also take place at a custom shipyard in Athens, Greece, and will be seen across steel mills, construction sites and material stores in future updates.
Scania R and S Series overhaul
Scania R and S Series trucks will receive a significant overhaul, as we explained in a previous article. This will unlock more chassis, engine and transmission options for these in-game trucks, and include two new paint jobs.
Special Transport and Krone Trailer Pack DLC updates
The Special Transport DLC will receive new content in v1.57’s Open Beta, including a Wind Turbine Blade and an Underground Loader, while the Krone Trailer Pack DLC gets city versions of existing trailers, featuring steerable axles. These are:
- Profi Liner City
- Cool Liner City
- Dry Liner City
- Profi Liner HCT
The new content will be available to players who already own the Special Transport and Krone Trailer Pack DLCs.
To sample ETS 2’s v1.57 Open Beta, right-click on the game icon in your Steam Library, select ‘Properties’, then ‘Betas’ and pick the ‘Public Beta’ option.
