Eiger Nordwand track returns in Gran Turismo 7 alongside new physics and six cars

Six cars will also feature, including Colin McRae’s 1998 WRC car, alongside the fictional Swiss venue. Sophy AI enhancements and further customisation options round out the main features.

Gran Turismo 7 will receive an additional venue for the first time since November 2023 when Eiger Nordwand arrives later this month.

Set in the Swiss Alps, the fictional route first appeared in the PlayStation 3 launch experience Gran Turismo HD Concept. It was then a mainstay through Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo 6. But, that 2013 game was its final appearance, until now.

The return will expand the circuit location list in-game to 39, following the fictional Canadian venue Lake Louise eight months ago.

The thing strip of asphalt snakes its way through the mountainous landscape, with tight hairpins, a jump and a shadowy tunnel challenges drivers will face.

It previously featured one of the longest and slowest pitlanes ever seen in gaming – we’ll find out if that remains later this month. Same too if the extra-long k-trail rally variant is part of the layouts.

Six new cars

Alongside the countryside-based track will be the following cars:

  • BMW M3 (E36) 1997
  • Ferrari 430 Scuderia 2007
  • Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept
  • Lamborghini Gallardo LP 560-4 2008
  • Subaru Impreza Rally Car 1998 (Colin McRae, Nicky Grist)
  • RUF RGT 4.2 2016

That’s a lot of rather tasty metal – but it is hard to look past the bulbous wings and bedazzling blue paint job on that Subaru. This GC8 Impreza was campaigned in the 1998 World Rally Championship by the late Colin McRae and co-driver Nicky Grist – the duo taking third in the drivers’ championship with three wins that season.

The BMW, meanwhile, plugs a hole in the M3 line-up, with the E30 and E46 either side of this late-’90s example already present. It’s a similar story with the Lamborghini, this facelifted Gallardo is the first of the model seen in GT7.

Following rumours of Genesis entering sportscar racing in the near future, perhaps a racing variant of its Vision GT is not unexpected.

‘New’ physics

A vehicle physics update is also promised, although finer details are lacking presently. The reveal trailer shows the aforementioned Subaru rally car landing a jump with composure perhaps not yet seen with Polyphony’s latest.

These will be matched with Michelin-branded tyres and additional wheel customisation options.

AI agent Sophy expands

Up until this point, Sony AI’s Sophy agent is only accessible for a race against on nine tracks. This will change with the next game update, as the Nürburgring (24h, including the Nordschleife) and Autodrome Lago Maggiore will be added to the list for PS5 owners.

We expect further single-player events and a host of smaller tweaks once the update arrives on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Speaking of which…
