Shop sim racing equipment
The team behind PISTA Motorsport has teased a new game mode that will be coming to the Unity-powered racing sim shortly. There’s also reason to believe that the game may have open-world elements in the future too…
After a mixed reception to its Early Access release in August last year, developer REG Simulations has released a couple of major updates to the game and has consistently dropped minor patches, highlighting an impressive dedication to its nascent platform.

A road map released last November revealed that copious amounts of new cars and tracks would be added to PISTA toward its 2026 v1.0 release date, with ambitious new game modes sporadically dotted throughout the timeline.
One of these, drag racing, has been teased by REG in its latest Twitter/X post, showing a classic two-lane drag strip replete with traffic lights (better known as the Christmas tree system).
PISTA Motorsport goes open-world
Intriguingly, REG’s latest social post also hinted that PISTA may have an open-world mode too, with one screenshot showing a road sign gantry on what appears to be a highway. Another image shows one of the game’s racecars incongruously sitting at a petrol station.
The screenshots also feature a ’70s-era Chevrolet Nova SS and a vintage drag-racing car (which looks awfully like a ‘60s Nova), perhaps revealing two new cars to expect in PISTA’s next update.
We don’t know when PISTA’s next content drop will occur, but it should be free to download for those who purchased the game in Early Access regardless.
