The continual refinement of DIRT 5 continues apace with today’s announcement that Update 5.00 and the paid Super Size Content Pack will both launch 20th July for PlayStation, PC and Xbox. Google Stadia users will follow at a later date.
Let’s start with Update 5.00 – incorporating a Parts Unknown Playgrounds Update – both of which are free to all players.
The biggest news here is two new tracks for everyone, São Conrado and Rio Seafront. Both set in Brazil, these are the first circuits to be added since the game’s initial launch in November 2020. Both are also playable on a reversed layout and during online play.
As is the theme with a DIRT 5 update, the create-and-share-your-own-track mode, Playgrounds, has also received some changes. In order to incentivise play, there will now be a new weekly challenge utilising one of the community-created challenges, with rewards handed out depending on your online leaderboard finishing position.
20 new space-themed items are also available within Create mode, alongside a new Area 51 location option for those UFO vibes.
Finally, new real-world themed liveries will be added for the BMW M2 Competition, Citroen C3 R5, Fiat Abarth 124 Rally, Porsche 911 RGT, and Porsche Cayenne Transsyberia and those on PS5 will now be able to experience re-work DualSense haptic feedback – something we’ve been crying out for since launch.
The Super Size Content Pack is a new paid expansion, which is available individually or for no additional charge if you already own the Amplified/Year One Editions.
It includes four new cars:
- Bentley Continental GT Ice Race Car (Rally GT)
- Armada Rock Racer (Rock Bounder)
- Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport Baja Concept (Cross Raid)
- Rezvani Tank (Pre-Runner)
Alongside the new vehicles, a new Career Expansion with 27 new events is part of the bundle, alongside five additional Trophies/Achievements and two new in-game sponsors: Toblerone and Power Maxed.
Now eight months after release, the post-launch support for DIRT 5 continues to surpass expectations. I for one will be dipping back in to try the new Career events next week.
