A new top-down racing game is about to hit the market – SuperSpec Rallycross.
Aping the real-world sport, multiple cars race around a circuit at once. The track may have different surfaces – so it could be mostly asphalt, but with one or two corners that are gravel.
Events are short, sharp, and everyone must take a longer ‘joker lap’ route once per race.
The visuals are outlandishly cartoonish, and based on our quick test of a demo recently, the handling is forgiving but grounded somewhat in reality.
The car list is spectacular if you happen to be a fan of rallying. While the recreations are not licenced, Manfred Stohl’s Citroën Xsara or Scott Speed’s VW Beetle inspiration is obvious.
It is the work of solo developer Skyler King, aka Volume Games, and will feature local split-screen multiplayer for up to four people, 12 vehicles and 20 circuits.
For those longing for a new rallycross game – and it has arguably been too long since the Codemasters’ DiRT Rally series morphed into WRC, skipping WorldRX – this could be your next fix.
SuperSpec Rallycross releases on PC via Steam on 11th July 2024. It is Steam Deck verified and there are plans for a mobile port later in the year.
