Each week, the ranked multiplayer playlist within GT Sport changes, and I comment on whether there are repeat races or strange new concoctions.
This time around, the Roadster/MX-5 at Tsukuba setup is as repetitive as it gets.
But there’s a reason for that – it’s brilliant.
Small, fizzy, two-seaters and a tight, narrow, Japanese circuit. When it comes to perfecting your race craft, learning how to defend and attack well here will put you in good stead of bigger, more important races at larger venues in faster cars.
So, while we anticipate Gran Turismo 7, and we know that your Sport Mode rankings will carry across, boot up GT Sport and remember why Coca-Cola Classic tastes so good ahead of ‘New Coke’.
The secret to success in the six laps around the diminutive Tokyo-based circuit is a good qualifying lap time. Which is more obvious than the ending of a Moore-era Bond movie.
But, it really, really, matters here, as overtaking opportunities are scarce.
Pro tip: Trail brake into the first corner, over the little crest and bump. Modulating the brake pedal here is the key to unlocking a quick lap time.
Stepping up the pace is Race B, where the Gr.4 cars take on the Red Bull Ring. The medium speed of this race category is perfectly suited to the medium length Austrian venue. Five quick laps will determine the victor.
Recommended car: Hyundai Genesis Gr.4
The speed takes another step upwards with the final event, Race C. Any Gr.3 car in your garage will suffice for 10 laps and a mandatory pitstop.
Sadly, the layout in use is Sardegna Road Track A, which in my opinion is terminally dull. Still, when you’re in a pack, dicing for position, any track is exciting. Watch out for the powerful undercut.
Recommended car: Nissan GT-R GT3 Schulze Motorsport ‘13
Full details of each race are below, and the playlist will next reset on Monday 21st February 2022, the penultimate GT Sport Daily Races article from Traxion.GG.
