4J Studios, the Dundee-based developer famous for porting gaming behemoth Minecraft to consoles, will release a new Nintendo Switch game this Thursday (13th of July 2023).
Called Manic Mechanics, the game sees up to four players co-operatively fix vehicles in double-quick time – fitting wheels, painting doors and installing engines – before shipping the finished product off for score bonuses.
It features fun game mechanics (appropriately) where players need to work together and divvy up tasks efficiently to achieve the best results, beating the resident expert mechanic in each of Octane Island’s five environments in the process.
Care must be taken, however, as fuel or paint spills that aren’t mopped up can cause fires and slips, with players requiring a keen eye for the parts-supplying conveyor belt and its oily bounty.
Players can also explore Octane Isle’s main map by car, using a classic top-down viewpoint to traverse various obstacles – the cutesy graphics adding to the lively atmosphere.
With 25 levels to complete and online and local multiplayer modes included, the game looks to play like a vehicular version of Overcooked, with increasingly challenging goals to hit and a fair slice of chaos thrown in. It’s the Fall Guys/Kwik Fit tie-in we didn’t know we needed…
Manic Mechanics is available to pre-order from the Nintendo eShop now for £19.99, and will be released digitally on the 13th of July.
