The build-up to RaceRoom’s annual Daytona Oval Race begins in earnest, with qualifying for the Floridian superspeedway event now live.
Daytona International Speedway has been a busy place of late, with the Daytona 24 Hours taking place on the 28th/29th of January and the opening round of the 2023 NASCAR season – the Daytona 500 – occurring just last weekend (19th of February).
Inspired by the ‘500, RaceRoom has launched a publicly available special event for the GTR3-class Chevrolet Camaro GT3, where players set their fastest possible lap time to decide their starting position and split.
The Daytona Oval Race event will feature three 30-minute sprints with 4x fuel consumption and tyre wear rates sure to provide interesting pit strategies. Top 10 reversed grids will also be in action, guaranteeing some interesting pack racing.
At the time of publication, it’s Luca Wüthrich setting the benchmark in qualifying with a time of 48.828s, with the top 32 drivers separated by less than a tenth of a second. The top split event will be broadcast live on RaceRoom’s YouTube channel on Friday the 3rd of March at 18:25 UTC.
Although RaceRoom is free-to-play, to participate in the Daytona Oval Race players will need to own both the Chevrolet Camaro GT3 (£1.74) and Daytona International Speedway (£4.42), available from the RaceRoom Store.
