BavarianSimTec’s Alpha steering wheel may be screenless but is packed with features and made from premium-grade materials.

German sim racing peripheral manufacturer BavarianSimTec has unveiled its latest steering wheel, which forgoes the emerging trend for LED displays by remaining completely screenless.

The Alpha steering wheel is available now in standard or advanced variations, with both constructed from ‘aerospace grade aluminium’ and punctuated with laser-engraved markings.

Weighing around 1.2 kg, the wheel face has two, seven-way switches, 12 RGB buttons and three clever rotary encoders which can be programmed to provide a total of 33 inputs.

BavarianSimTec’s proprietary AdaptiveBeamTec technology also cleverly automatically adjusts traction control and ABS based on the car you’re driving. Optimal settings for dry weather are lit in yellow, wet conditions in blue and your current settings in green.

The grips for the 295mm-wide wheel are made from silicone rubber and feature a 13-degree slope design to provide users’ thumbs with the optimal level of grip during hard cornering.

BavriaSimTec, which appropriately designs and manufactures its products in Bavaria and borrows the region’s blue and white flag for its logo (which should also be familiar to BMW fans), offers two versions of the Alpha.

The Advanced Alpha features dual-clutch paddles

The ‘Advanced’ version adds butterfly shifters (two sets of shifters) and dual analogue clutch paddles, while the ‘Standard’ appropriately offers standard magnetic shifters with no clutch paddles. The Advanced is priced at £826 EX VAT and shipping, while the Standard costs £713 EX VAT and shipping.

The Alpha is available now from BavarianSimTec’s website, with orders set to be shipped at the end of August, and is compatible with Simucube, Fanatec, VRS, Simagic and MOZA wheelbase via USB. Asetek wheelbases are also compatible through a USB connection or via the Asetek Invicta QR.
