It’s Motorsport Australia vs Motorsport UK this weekend, as the two motorsport organisations duke it out in an esports race utilising Assetto Corsa Competizione.
Billed as the “esports version of the Ashes” by chief organiser Motorsport Australia, the live event will see two races with each competitor in identical McLaren 720S GT3s – apart from the livery, with two on display to showcase each nation competing.
Bathurst’s Mount Panorama will hold the first race, with Kent’s Brands Hatch the second. A practice session will be followed by qualifying and then a race. 20 drivers will take part, 10 for each motorsport organisation.
For Australia, Andrew Laurenson and Philippa Boquida have proved their prodigious pace in the SRO Asia esports competitions. On the UK side, Kieran Prendergast won the Silver Class of the Hungarian GT World Challenge Europe Esports round in July. Oh, and there’s the small matter of Traxion.GG journalist Ross McGregor.
No pressure, Ross. It’s not like there are the hopes of the nation on your shoulders or anything…
The full entry list is below and the event will be live on the SimGrid YouTube channel from 9.15 am BST / 6 pm AEST on Sunday 14th August.
