The second early access update for Assetto Corsa EVO brings more than ‘foundational’ changes to the evolving driving simulation, but also a significant shift in the platform’s upcoming schedule.
Upon launching EVO, you will now be greeted with an all-new road map, drastically changed from the initial publication in January.
Then, the cadence included content drops in between major early access updates. So, following the launch, there was a February content drop with a Lamborghini, a Lancia and Fuji Speedway.
But then, based on a somewhat mixed initial response, the development team at Kunos Simulazioni delayed the second early access release until yesterday, 7th May, and bolstered its contents – bumped from five new cars and one track to seven cars and two venues.
Now, the concept of ‘content drops’ has been removed entirely. It’s worth noting that instead of six early access releases, there are now eight, and each will include new cars and/or tracks.

Spa-Francorchamps confirmed
The next major update will include the Red Bull Ring, spotted in a recent game trailer, and Circuit de Spa Francorchamps – the first time the Belgian venue has been mentioned.
Perhaps crucially, it will also include ‘AI opponents step 2’, the Traxion team’s main bugbear at the moment, alongside a new tyre model. ‘Step 1’ of an online multiplayer mode will appear here, with Step 2 expected in the fourth update.
Yesterday’s update split the game structure into an ‘open mode’ sandbox and ‘career’ with progression, although the sense of moving forward isn’t there yet in the latter. The seventh early access update promises ‘career updates’. It will be preceded by the first modding tools, even before the game leaves early access.

Free roam pushed back
One of the most significant features of EVO, part of the initial unveiling last year, is the ability to freely drive around roads, villages and the German countryside near the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
This was expected in the fourth early access update. Instead, this is now labelled as ‘Step 1’ and will be in the eighth early access release, the last before version 1.0.
We’ll keep track of EVO through the year, and in the meantime, you can watch back our live stream of the 0.2 update. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
