Following its announcement last December, developer Repixel8 and publisher Numskull Games has announced that Neon Apex: Beyond the Limit is launching next week on 16th May for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
Alongside the digital release, there will also be a physical version for PS5 and Nintendo Switch.
From the creator of Formula Retro Racing World Tour, Neon Apex is a futuristic arcade racer featuring cel-shaded, anime-inspired graphics. Vehicles range from cars to motorcycles and hoverbikes, and can be upgraded using winnings earned in a career mode.

The indie arcade racer is set in a “fractured future,” where you race against “cybernetically enhanced humans” and “AI-driven androids” in a departure from Formula Retro Racing: World Tour’s single-seaters and touring cars.
As you race at breakneck speeds of over 200 mph, you’ll need to manage your boost while dodging traffic and drifting. There’s no mention of online multiplayer, but you’ll be able to compare times on an online leaderboard. This was also the case in Repixel8’s last racing game, Formula Retro Racing: World Tour.
If you want to try Neon Apex ahead of its release, a playable demo can be downloaded on Steam, giving access to the first two levels of the campaign. This lets you try a variety of game modes, including sprint races, takedown events, versus events and bonus stages.
With its stylised visuals, futuristic vehicles and fast-paced arcade racing, Neon Apex looks like a fun time. Its cyberpunk aesthetic could also help it stand out against the crop of indie arcade racers flooding the market.
