Sim-Lab and Cosworth combine to create all-new carbon sim racing steering wheel

Cosworth and Sim-Lab have announced a new steering wheel, the Cosworth Carbon Wheel Mk3. The collaboration sees the fully carbon fibre, FIA-certified steering wheel used in IndyCar made available to the public.

Sim-Lab has announced a partnership with legendary British engineering firm Cosworth, the fruits of which will be exhibited exclusively at this year’s SimRacing Expo.

The pair have combined to create the Cosworth Carbon Wheel Mk3 (CCW Mk3), a sim racing steering wheel that builds on Cosworth’s accrued knowledge from 176 Formula 1 Grand Prix victories and 22 championships.

The 284mm-wide rim features a carbon fibre chassis, 12 RGB backlit buttons, four backlit rotaries, four thumbwheel encoders, up to six paddles, high-speed solid-state data logging and two CAN ports(a CAN bus controller allows ECUs to easily ‘speak’ to each other).

Cosworth, which has masterminded a tranche of notable engineering projects, including the V12 engines found in the Aston Martin Valkyrie and the GMA T.50, the latter of which revs to an astonishing 12,000 rpm, previously worked with SimRep Engineering on its Cosworth CCW Mk2 Pro Sim steering wheel.

In 2025, however, Cosworth supplies its CCW Mk3 steering wheels and provides electronics support to almost every IndyCar team on the grid, assuring potential customers that the sim-focused CCW Mk3s have been rigorously tested in real-world motorsport.

“Our latest evolution of the CCW Mk3 steering wheel is the result of extensive collaboration with teams and drivers to ensure it meets the highest standards in ergonomics, customisation and race-critical functionality”, stated Paul Newby, MD of Cosworth Electronics.

“By working closely with the motorsport teams, we’ve created a product that balances cutting-edge technology with real-world usability on the track. Together with Sim-Lab, we’re extending that philosophy to the sim racing community, delivering an authentic, immersive experience that bridges the gap between simulation and reality,” he concluded.

Dutch sim racing hardware manufacturer Sim-Lab will be attending this year’s SimRacing Expo at Messe Dortmund, 17th-19th October, where the Cosworth Carbon Wheel Mk3 makes its public debut at booth D8.

“Cosworth’s legacy of engineering excellence fits perfectly with our mission to raise the ceiling for sim racing hardware,” said Richard Schouteren, CEO of Sim-Lab. “Together we will deliver authentic motorsport performance and user-focused design to a wider audience of racers at home,” he continued.
