Honda is set to join the ever-growing vehicle roster in Tokyo Xtreme Racer.

A teaser video for the classic reboot showcased the unmistakable sight of a first-generation NA1 Honda NSX, complete with its distinctive pop-up headlights.

The Japanese brand’s appearance has long been sought after by TXR fans, with Honda apparently unwilling to associate with a game based on illegal street racing. Thankfully, however, developer Genki has reconciled its differences with the manufacturer, and at least one Honda will be part of the game. With most major JDM brands already present, including Nissan, Subaru, Toyota, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi, it seems like this is a positive outcome for everyone.

The original NSX is a V6-powered sports car, producing just under 300 bhp. Available from 1990, the NSX underwent a facelift in 2002, dispensing with the pop-up headlights while refining the overall package.

However, the NSX is perhaps most famous for its Ayrton Senna patronage, where the Brazilian magician pedalled a white NSX-R example around Suzuka, all the while wearing a pair of natty leather loafers. Legend.

A replacement, hybrid-powered NSX was released in 2017, but was discontinued in 2023.

The R35 Nissan GT-R was also confirmed in the same teaser video, and it’s expected to appear when the game hits v1.0. This brings the number of Nissans up to 13, the joint-highest total in-game alongside Toyota.

The GT-R has been in production since 2007, with the final model, a Premium T-Spec in Midnight Blue, completed this month. Ironically, it’s the 2023 Premium T-Spec edition coming to TXR, resplendent in its Gold livery with matching wheels.

The GT-R’s longevity can be attributed to its incredible engineering, with mild developments over the years keeping it competitive against a succession of rivals.

Based on TXR’s car roster so far, the GT-R will almost certainly be a strong contender in-game, with the Premium T-Spec car producing 565 bhp from its VR38DETT V6 twin-turbo engine.
