Forza Horizon 5 is being released for the PlayStation 5, but it will not be part of the PlayStation Plus (PS Plus) game catalogue.

On Xbox and PC, the Microsoft racing game is part of most Game Pass subscription tiers (excluding Game Pass Core), whereby, upon payment of a monthly fee, players gain access to a library of games.

As Horizon 5 is a first-party Xbox game, it’s included for Standard, PC (Xbox app) and Ultimate Game Pass subscribers.

But the title will not be part of the equivalent subscription service on PS5. Players will need to purchase the fifth Horizon game outright, much like Steam PC users.

PS+ has three tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium.

Essential provides access to a small rolling library of monthly games, which Forza Horizon 5 is not part of in April, at least. Extra opens up a much larger game library, and Premium offers those titles plus a collection of older, ‘classic’, games. Horizon 5 is not part of either library.

Do you need PS+ to play Forza Horizon 5 multiplayer on PS5?

Yes, to access the main online multiplayer modes within Forza Horizon 5 on PS5, you will need an active PlayStation Plus subscription. This opens up access to features such as The Eliminator, Horizon Open and Hide & Seek.

This can be a yearly or monthly subscription to any of the three PS Plus tiers: Essential, Extra and Premium.

PlayStation Plus Essential is the most cost-effective way of playing Horizon 5 online, starting from $9.99 USD / £6.99 / €8.99 per month or $79.99 USD / £59.99 / €71.99 for a year.
