Fanatec has moved to address one of the weaknesses of its ClubSport DD and ClubSport DD+ wheelbases by releasing the DD Shaft Expansion.
The DIY kit, which increases the wheelbase-to-steering wheel distance by 160mm, is available to purchase now and includes all the necessary parts, tools and bolts required to adapt to Fanatec’s wheelbase hardware.
Extending the distance between the wheelbase and steering wheel allows sim racers more sim rig hardware mounting options, allowing wheelbases to be mounted behind monitors to provide a ‘mixed reality’ setup.
The DD Shaft Expansion consists of CNC-machined aluminium and a typically Fanatec black anodised finish, with the financially beleaguered German peripheral manufacturer (see below) assuring customers the unit will be stable enough to cope with the rigours of sim racing.
In terms of compatibility, a QR2 Base-Side (Type-F) mounting point is required on the wheelbase side, while any ClubSport DD / DD+ agreeing steering wheel will work as before. No extra cables are required for the electronics, with the DD Shaft Expansion ensuring all connections and force feedback potential remain reliable.
