SCS Software has produced another huge update for its American Truck Simulator (ATS) and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2) titles, bringing a raft of improvements to each of the popular trucking sims.

Although there are individual game improvements – like improved ambient sounds in ATS and ownable livestock trailers in ETS2 – both titles feature common upgrades too; including real driving assists like adaptive cruise control and an emergency braking system.

Check out our full run-down of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2’s v1.47 update below.

American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 v1.47 updates

Custom City Intros (Utah & Idaho)

SCS Software has stepped up its implementation of custom city intros to both its titles. For ATS, this means attractive game start videos for cities in Utah and Idaho, with ETS2 receiving new intros for Stuttgart and Geneva as part of its Germany and Switzerland reworks.

ETS2’s Road to the Black Sea DLC also gains custom city intros functionality, with featured cities including Bucharest and Istanbul.

Ownable gas cisterns

Much like ownable chemical, milk and fuel trailers, v1.47 is set to feature ownable gas cisterns for ATS and ETS2. These will be used to transport highly flammable gases such as methane, propane and liquefied petroleum (LPG).

The new trailer type will include the following options:

  • Paintable/Chrome Boxes
  • Paintable/Chrome Valve Covers
  • Customisable Side Lamps
  • Paintable Wing
  • A wide variety of hoses
  • A variety of rear fenders and rear bumper lights
  • A variety of trailer paintjobs

Ownable livestock trailers

Already available in ATS, livestock trailers have made their way to ETS2, allowing players to transport pigs and cattle across Europe. The new trailer type will include the following options:

  • Left/right/front/rear body
  • Markers
  • Side protection plates/boxes
  • Rear fenders
  • Rear bumpers
  • Rear mudflaps

Adaptive cruise control and emergency braking system

These real-world automotive safety systems come to ATS and ETS2 after first appearing as hidden experimental features back in their v1.44 build. They now make a full (and official) return.

The adaptive cruise control system allows players to set a fixed safe distance to the vehicle in front while out on the roads, allowing their truck to speed up or slow down automatically to keep pace with traffic. It should come as a great relief to those looking to unwind and relax on long journeys.

The emergency braking system, on the other hand, cuts in automatically when your truck detects a collision is imminent ahead. Not that any ATS or ETS2 players would get themselves into that kind of situation.

Random road bumps

Yes, surprisingly random road bumps are now a new facet of both ATS and ETS2. The feature – known as ‘Uneven Surface Simulation’ – is designed to enhance the imperfect feeling of driving on real roads, where random bumps and potholes can develop over time.

The bumps will be procedurally generated, so their locations won’t be fixed each time you play the games. SCS has also revealed there’s scope for the feature to be expanded upon in future updates.

Career History UI redesign

ATS and ETS2’s career history feature has undergone a redesign, with its user interface undergoing a refresh. The new menu is now divided into four categories: Deliveries, Exploration, Driver Experience and Penalties.

The career history UI tracks deliveries, including stats on missed deliveries, cargo types and map exploration. Penalties are also tracked, albeit only for your last two weeks of trucking.

Germany Rework

ETS2 sees the German cities of Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Nurnberg and Erfurt receive some special attention, gaining full ground-up rebuilds to take advantage of the game’s historic graphics improvements.
