Gran Turismo 7’s latest Lap Time Challenge features Gr.3 cars at the Nürburgring’s Grand Prix layout.

This fortnight’s Gran Turismo 7 Lap Time Challenge sees us visit Germany’s Nürburgring for a blast around its Grand Prix loop in Gr.3 cars.

GT7‘s Lap Time Challenge is a time trial mode where you compete against other players to set the fastest time on the leader board. However, there’s a caveat: setting a lap within three per cent of the fastest time nets players 2,000,000 Credits.

If you aren’t quite quick enough for that then lapping within five per cent gains you 1,000,000 Credits, while a time inside 10 per cent of the fastest results in a 250,000 Credit pay-out.

The current incarnation of Nürburgring’s GP track has been the main venue for Formula 1’s German Grand Prix since 2003 (sharing with Hockenheim), following major revisions to Turn 1 in 2002.

The 3.2-mile track is narrow by modern circuit standards, but features several high-speed turns, chicanes and hairpins, meaning overtaking can be tricky.

However, GT7’s Gr.3 cars are much better suited to the Nurburg track and the pick of the bunch is the 2017 Porsche 911 RSR (991). Hailing from the legendary Weissach car manufacturer, the 911 has been supremely successful in global motorsport, winning 20 of its 48 races across the IMSA and FIA WEC series.

Although Porsche’s road-going 911 has moved onto the 992 generation Porsche is reportedly not developing a race car version, instead choosing to concentrate on its forthcoming assault on its Le Mans Hypercar category of the WEC.

The 911 RSR is undoubtedly a superb car but it’s one that’s seen a lot of action in GT7 of late, with it dominating most of the recent Gr.3 Daily Races.

However, players wishing to use a different car with similar performance can try the Audi R8 LMS Evo ’19 or Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 ’18. Both cost 450.000 Credits from Brand Central.

For GT7 newbies, the Sport mode – where you can find the Daily Races and Lap Time Challenge – unlocks after completing Café Menu Book nine.
