Gran Turismo 7‘s Daily Races are back this week and we have a full gamut of Balance of Performance (BoP) events to contend with. Groups 2, 3 and 4 are all represented, with the bi-weekly Lap Time Challenge coming from Fuji International Raceway.
Since 30th May, Race A of Gran Turismo 7‘s Daily Races is an event that will not affect players’ Driver Rating (DR) and Sportsmanship Rating (SR). This means Race A is ideal for newcomers to online racing, or those simply unwilling to risk their hard-fought DR and SR
Also, as of week commencing the 25th of April, if you don’t own the required Daily Races vehicle then GT7 allows players to rent them. This is especially handy for those races featuring uber-expensive cars – such as this week’s Race C for Gr.2 vehicles.
For GT7 newbies, the Sport mode – where you can find the Daily Races – unlocks after completing Café Menu Book nine.
RACE A
To kick things off, Race A sees a good mixture of Gr.3 cars battle it out around Circuit de Barcelona’s Catalunya Grand Prix Layout. It’s a straight out sprint race so no need to worry about tyres or fuel consumption.
In a positive step for Polyphony Digital’s BoP settings, a number of different cars are evenly-matched around this track, but our pick of the bunch is the Porsche 911 RSR (991) ’17. The Porsche features a glorious flat-six-engined soundtrack, with over 500bhp on tap.
Another excellent choice is the fictional Volkswagen Beetle Gr.3, a recent firm favourite in GT7’s Daily Races.
Recommended car: Porsche 911 RSR (991) ‘17 – Gr.3 (Brand Central, 450,000 Credits or free rental)
Race B
Race B sees us return to the Dragon Trail Seaside layout with Gr.4 cars. We last used this combination week commencing 30th May, and the outcome was the same: the Subaru WRX Gr.4 is the car to beat.
Polyphony Digital still has some work to do in terms of balancing GT7‘s cars then, but at least players can enjoy the view thanks to Dragon Trail’s fictional recreation of a Croatian coastal resort.
Recommended car: Subaru WRX Gr.4 (Brand Central, 350.000 credits or free rental)
Race C
Deep Forest Raceway is the venue for Race C with Gr.2 cars providing the thrills. In GT7, the Gr.2 class covers the likes of Japanese Super GT cars such as the Nissan GT-R GT500 and Lexus SC430, and ’90s Le Mans legends like the McLaren F1 GTR and Mercedes-Benz AMG CLK-LM.
The pick of the bunch for Race C, however, is the AMG. Featuring around 600bhp and weighing less than a metric ton, the AMG was Mercedes’ weapon of choice at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1998. Although it had won the FIA GT Championship previously, the longer distances of Le Mans proved troublesome.
They swapped out the V12 engine for a more reliable V8 and were on the pace, nabbing pole position for the 1998 race. However, both the team’s cars retired. Hopefully Race C will be a lot smoother for GT7 players…
Tyre wear is set at 7x, so taking Softs will almost certainly require a pitstop. Hards are the safe option but at least with fuel consumption set to 1x this won’t be a concern.
Recommended car: AMG CLK-LM ‘98 (Legend cars 8,500,000 Credits or free rental)
