WATCH: Mitchell deJong - from X-Games gold to Porsche Esports driver

The Porsche YouTube channel, which was the same place to catch the Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup action this season, posted their first episode of RECODE THE RACE, a brief biopic on one of their new Esports Factory drivers, Mitchell deJong.

Together with Joshua Rogers, Mack Bakkum and Tommy Østgaard, deJong is one of four drivers chosen to be a part of the brand-new Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team, the Porsche Factory team of sim racers. Martin Krönke is the team’s reserve drivers and Philip Stamm is the Team Principal.

Now, we did see this particular episode on the team announcement stream. In it, you’ll hear from deJong’s mouth a brief history of his sim racing career, the real-world career he had before that, and how it all led to becoming one of the top level drivers across multiple platforms and disciplines.

Mitchell can really do it all, though. He’s a Rallycross Gold Medalist and an iRacing Rallycross World Champion. He competes currently in the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series and finished last season just shy of the title. This whole team is impressive, and deJong’s accomplishments just add to that star power.

Mitchell deJong, PESC 2021, Coanda

To me, this new factory team, the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team, feels like it’s been building for a while. The group has competed at the highest levels of PESC and have also run well in previous Le Mans Virtual Series events. When the lot pulled out of PESC late last year, you kind of knew it had to be for some big reason. This surely fits that bill.

I suspect the future episodes will be the same clips from the team announcement stream, but if you haven’t yet checked that out, be sure to watch the video above. I would stay tuned to the Porsche YouTube for all the future Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team content, as well.
