The beach-replacing tri-oval in Florida, otherwise known as the Daytona International Speedway, will be receiving a laser-scan update within the iRacing sim racing platform later today (11th January 2022).
Home to NASCAR’s Daytona 500 and the 24 Hours of Daytona endurance race, the over 60-year-old venue will be receiving a fresh lick of virtual paint. The laser scan data comes from 2021, so this is set to be the most up to date rendition of the circuit currently in sim racing.

In particular, new 3D fencing really stands out in the short video teaser. This, alongside upgraded track textures, should provide a noticeable visual uplift. In terms of driving, curbing will now better represent recent real-world track upgrades, providing a new driving challenge.

We’re interested in trying the new curbs at the Road Course Bus Stop chicane in particular, which looks to have a more aggressive ‘sausage’ bump placement in its latter section. In other areas, the rumble strips appear to have authentic wear patches.
The update will land just in time for the upcoming special events: iRacing ROAR and the sixth running of the iRacing Daytona 24. If you’d like to take part in these, now’s probably the time to be working on your licences.
