DTM Esports Ottaviani confirms place in final with Sachsenring victory

Alessandro Ottaviani took pole for the final remote race of the 2026 DTM Esports season (using RaceRoom), with fourth-placed Tim Jarschel alongside on the grid.

The order would soon be shaken up, though, as they took the start of the hour-long race which would decide the top 20 heading to the in-person final.

Nikodem Wisniewski, who needed a result as he’d started 27th in points at the start of the day, 104 points outside of the all-important top 20, made contact with Jarschel in turn one as the German thought he was clear to take the apex. It resulted in contact, a spin for Jarschel, and Wisniewski moving into second out of turn one.

The field largely stayed single file for the next 15 minutes, the point at which the pitstop window opened for their first of two stops throughout the race. Wisniewski came in first, attempting to undercut the race leader Ottaviani, but the Italian responded on the next lap and comfortably kept the lead.

Caique Oliveira was running third before the stops, but Tomas Ribeiro was able to jump him and move into the podium places. And it would get worse for the Brazilian, because wheel issues would force him to stop four times throughout the race, and he’d finish 16th.

Ribeiro wouldn’t have it all his own way for third either, though, as in the final stops Max Benecke was able to jump him, and Moritz Lohner, Benecke’s teammate, was very nearly able to do the same. He would eventually make the move on track with 17 minutes to go, a rare event during the race.

Lucas Muller attempted to do the same on Ribeiro three minutes later, but showed an example of how not to make a pass by slamming into the back of the Portuguese, sending him way off the road at turn one. Further towards the front, just when it looked all over for the podium places, Benecke needed a surprise third stop on the last lap, allowing his teammate Lohner into third, and dropping himself down to 14th.

But out front, Ottaviani was in complete control. It was another podium for him in this very successful regular season, and this time a victory by over nine seconds.

It also gives him the regular season win by 46 points in front of Jonas Wanner, who had a fairly anonymous final round. Wisniewski, who came home second, made the top 20 as a result of the final race, while the final podium driver Moritz Lohner moved into the top five with his solid finish to the season.

The top 20 will battle it out in a LAN Final at the Raceroom Arena at the Nurburgring, running alongside the real-world DTM Series’ sixth round at the same venue in two weeks.
