After a brief open beta period, American Truck Simulator’s v1.58 update has now been released, featuring revised driving physics, map updates and Driving Academy additions.
Check out all the new features below.
Map updates
The Route 66 Rework project continues in v1.58, with the cities Lake Havasu and Winslow debuting in-game. The historic highway’s visuals have been refreshed, including a complete overhaul of a large section of I-40.
Existing cities, including Kingman, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon Village, Page, Kayenta, Camp Verde, Gallup, Albuquerque, Tucumcari and Show Low, have been given a fresh lick of paint, with the famous London Bridge also appearing.
Other landmarks, like the Hoover Dam, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, have also been upgraded for v1.58 and brought up to developer SCS Software’s lofty modern standards.
Driving Academy: double trailer missions
A new double trailer handling module has been added to the game’s Driver Academy, schooling players in the art of manoeuvring conjoined B-Doubles.
In terms of rewards, completing all 12 challenges will gain you a plushie dog toy to adorn your cockpit and a ‘Double Trouble’ achievement.
New Truck Garages
Players can now access new garages in v1.58, with all three home garage options receiving internal and external upgrades. They now appear far more modern and offer plenty of space to store your favourite trucks.
Physics
V1.58 also introduces revised physics in ATS, with SCS looking toward the introduction of shorter wheelbase pickups and cars as part of future Road Trip mode DLC packs.
The game’s throttle torque engine model and accompanying audio have also been completely reworked, with vehicles now building up torque and coasting more realistically.
Keyboard-using players have also had their experience improved, with a double-tap of the throttle key now providing immediate full power. Simply holding the same key, however, will make it easier to coast along the highway.
Collision physics updates also make road-holding much more stable, with vehicle suspension improvements adding further realism.
User interface
ATS’s tutorial will now feature a series of contextualised hints to ease newbies in, with the route adviser mechanic now featuring a widget-based system, which should provide a cleaner and more wieldy solution.
The pause screen now shows much more key information, with additional quality-of-life improvements coming to the Management Screen. Likewise, the Truck Configurator has also been simplified to promote both gamepad and mouse use.
