It’s another esoteric, lesser-spotted racing car set for Project Motor Racing inclusion.

Following the likes of the Gillet Vertigo and Morgan Aero8 GT(N), the Project Motor Racing development team is seemingly aiming to appease the GT racing cognoscenti.

On social media, it has teased yet another obscure race car, this time with a solitary interior shot.

We think this is the Lotus Elise GT1, which would fit in alongside the Porsche 911 GT1-98, Panoz Esperante GTR-1 and Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR.

The positioning of the air vents, instrument binnacle and supplementary controls is the giveaway, even if the steering wheel looks to be different to used Elise GT1 examples listed online.

Debuting in 1997 for the FIA GT Championship, it competed for one single season. This Norfolk-bred racer was a cataclysmic failure.

It was slow, unreliable and, worse for parent company Proton, expensive.

Which makes it all the more interesting. Such a short shelf-life, plus its plucky underdog conception, make it a fan-favourite 28 years later. Its appearance in early Gran Turismo games, ungainly dimensions and countless diecast models all add to the appeal.

Once Lotus cancelled the project, some Dutch fans purchased some examples, modifying the aerodynamics and replacing the Chevrolet-supplied V8 with a Dodge Viper V10 unit. The outfit entered one FIA GT race in 1998 under the German coachbuilding Bitter brand. It was even worse, somehow.

Still, in the virtual world, these shortcomings can be overcome, and when Project Motor Racing releases on 25th November, maybe the Elisde GT1 can claim victories it never came close to when new.

  2. The price on Steam for Canada jumped from 78$ to 98$. 98$ is simply crazy and reason for me not to buy. I have no found any reason why it increased suddenly like that.
