Fresh off the back of the real-world IMSA WeatherTech Championship Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen race, thousands of sim racers are gearing up for iRacing’s 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event this weekend.

Set at the historic Watkins Glen International circuit, sports cars from three different categories will do battle through six hours of intense racing, emphasising teamwork and strategy over outright pace.

What is the iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event?

The iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event is a multi-class race which doubles as the fifth round of the sim’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.


The race takes place on the Watkins Glen International – Boot layout over six hours, with teams able to split driving duties between two and 16 teammates.

When is the iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event?

The iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event takes place over the 27th and 29th June 2025 (time zone dependent), with five time slots available as shown below:

  • Timeslot #1 – Friday 22:00 GMT
  • Timeslot #2 – Saturday 7:00 GMT
  • Timeslot #3 – Saturday 12:00 GMT
  • Timeslot #4 – Saturday 16:00 GMT
  • Timeslot #5 – Sunday 00:00 GMT

iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event car classes

The iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event will feature GTP, HYP, LMP2 and GT3 (IMSA) cars. The top class includes all of the sim’s LMDh Hypercars, plus the Ferrari 499P LMH machine, with the LMP2 class limited to the Dallara P217.

The GT3 class consists of current cars used in the IMSA SportsCar Championship, with a custom Balance of Performance calculation released ahead of the event. This can be viewed below:

iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event entry requirements

To race in the iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event, all drivers must have a valid iRacing subscription, at least a D Road License at 4.0 or above, own the Watkins Glen track and at least one of the eligible cars (obviously!).

  • Valid iRacing subscription
  • D Road License 4.0
  • Watkins Glen – $14.95
  • One of the eligible GTP/HYP/LMP2/GT3 cars – $11.95 each

How to enter the iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event

The iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event will appear in the iRacing UI under the ‘Official’ section and can be joined by clicking on the ‘Register’ button once a suitable race time has been selected.

The iRacing 6 Hours of the Glen Special Event’s top split race will be broadcast live on iRacing’s YouTube channel.

Key session information

Positions for the rolling starts will be decided by 8-minute (two-lap) qualifying sessions, with splits determined by iRating. Grids can consist of up to 50 cars, with 35 incidents allowed before stop-and-go penalties are dished out, dropping to 20 for repeat offenders.
