A few weeks ago the version 1.13 update for Gran Turismo 7 hit, and with it the latest Subaru (ZD8) BRZ coupe. Unsurprisingly, the Daily Races – aka ranked online play – then featured an event that featured said Japanese sportscar against its Toyota sibling.
This week, starting Monday 9th May 2022 follows this trend, so there’s yet another chance for you to try and snag a podium with these boxer-engined brethren.
If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it.
Or in this case, these cars are so languid in response, another opportunity to enjoy taming pliant oversteer.
The aforementioned BRZ and GR86 pairing return from last week – but at a new venue. Suzuka has been unceremoniously replaced by the Nürburgring Grand Prix layout.
On the first lap, Haug-Haken, watch out for a bun fight. Make it through there okay, and it’s all about a clean run through the Michelin and Warsteiner-Kurves to make sure a move into the NGK Schikane is possible.
That, and keeping the car from spinning through the Michael Schumacher S…
Recommended car: Subaru BRZ S ’21 or Toyota GR86 RZ ’21 (Brand Central, 33,500credits, 32,670 Credits or free rental)
RACE B
The re-modelled Trial Mountain caused a bit of a stir when the first track maps were unveiled and speculated about.
However, a few months into its life, while you can’t launch a car skyward off the final corner berm, there are greater overtaking opportunities.
Nowhere is that more evident than online racing. Pair this venue with any Gr.4 in your garage or a rental, and this is a fun four-lap sprint that culminates in a penultimate corner dive or a cut-back run across the line.
Several vehicles will be competitive, but the all-wheel-drive assurance of the Subaru WRC Gr.4 looks to to be the plum choice this week.
The longer Race C hits the often-overlooked fictional Kyoto Driving Park, using the combined Yamagiwa+Miyabi layout.
Only slick Racing Hard rubber is in use, however, and fuel consumption is a lowly 1x. That means there’s less strategy than is the norm for this event – shame.
With that in mind, while always important, that qualifying lap is more crucial than ever for a Race C event.
There doesn’t appear to be one, stand-out, recommended car this time, with the Genesis X GR3, Subaru BRZ GT300 ’21 and Mercedes-AMG GT3 ’16 all worthy options. But the Volkswagen Beetle Gr.3, probably in a Herbie tribute livery, is the consistent choice.
