After 12 glorious episodes filled with nostalgia for one of Codemasters’ greatest games, the latest episode of my TOCA Race Driver 3 World Tour mode retrospective introduces rain.

At the Tier 20 and 61 per cent stage, I plumped for the 1970s GT Cup series of events and a BMW M1. This car was famously a collaboration between a near-bankrupt Lamborghini and Bavarian giant to, creating a homologated road car to then take racing.

It used a floorplan akin to the Countach and was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, but used a sonorous mid-mounted BMW straight-six engine instead of an Italian V12. Sadly, by the time its tumultuous gestation was completed, the rules of racing changed. Still, undeterred, BMW created the Procar one-make championship, where the Niki Lauda and Nelson Piquet shared the two titles. There was even a short-lived Group B rally spin-off – which you can drive in DiRT Rally 2.0.

Speaking of rallying, the age-old handling physics in TRD3 are up to no good again as when the track is wet, it turns into a D1 Grand Prix.

Watch the latest episode to see if I can progress and don’t forget to catch up on the whole series so far.
