A new esports series is coming in 2022 and it will encompass a number of titles from the Codemasters library of racing games. The VERSUS ULTRA Series begins next year thanks to a new partnership between the game developer Codemasters and professional esports and racing team Veloce Esports.
The league will be global and will be based around multiple different racing games available from Codemasters and the tournament format intends to ‘break the mould’. Those games include the yearly F1 video games, the DiRT franchise, the GRID titles and the Project CARS series. No specific games were mentioned or announced to be part of the schedule in the release, but the image shows a rallycross and GT3 car alongside a single-seater.
While more information will be announced in time regarding the format, the teams, and the VERSUS ULTRA Cup in general, it is said that some well-known esports teams, popular streamers and professional gamers will be part of the equation as well. Quadrant, the team owned by Formula 1 driver Lando Norris, was the first team to be officially announced.
“We’re delighted and feel very privileged to be partnering with such an established player in the industry as Codemasters, to launch what we know will be the best racing esports league in the world,” said Rupert Svendsen-Cook, CEO of Veloce Esports.
“We have worked closely with Codemasters for some time, as a large part of our media network features their titles, so it made a huge amount of sense to work together on this project.”
While not much more is known at this time, it will be interesting to see where this series will take its competitors. We will likely see the use of the Codemasters Formula 1 games, but whether it takes a tour through different years, different racing genres, or even different generations of consoles is yet to be seen.
We’ll keep our eyes on things as they continue to unfold for this upcoming esports competition.
