The Elgato Prompter is about to make script-reading or Twitch chat responses a lot more naturalistic, as it can mirror any computer window director where your camera is placed.
The 9-inch (1024×600 pixel) display and beamsplitter glass have been designed to work with what Elgato claims is “almost any webcam or camera” by affixing to the front of their lenses and then sitting above your monitor.
Primarily, it will work as a teleprompter displaying larger, moving, text. PC or Mac software is said to allow for the management of chapters, text style and scroll speed.
There’s also a chat mode design with livestream comments in mind thanks to direct Twitch chat integration and the ability to customise its appearance.
The third and final main mode is being able to mirror any browser tab or app, should that be a particular requirement. So, you could use it for your next Zoom or Teams meeting.
The Prompter is powered by plugging a USB-C cable into your computer and if you’re already in the Elgato ecosystem, it can be controlled by a Stream Deck.
It features two ¼-inch threads to sit on existing desktop mounts or tripods (sold separately). At the rear, there are two cold shoe mounts for the likes of mics or additional lighting, plus an L-bracket support to hold the camera device.
Of course, Elgato will happily sell you a low profile arm or telescope mount for your set-up to hold the Prompter in place, a Cam Link 4K to connect your camera to your computer or its own Facecam Pro webcam. Outside of its own product range though, it has a handy online tool that lists supported devices.
The Elgato Prompter is available now for £279.99/$279.99.
