The new build and content that will debut in 2023 iRacing Season 3 is set to release on 6th June. We have a new Hypercar with the Cadillac GTP and a new Prototype with the Ligier LMP3, why not add a new GT car to the fold? iRacing is doing just that, announcing the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) for release this week.

Some people may be asking what the difference is between this car and the other half dozen Porsches on iRacing. Well, I was one who wondering, at least, so I did a little research. The simple answer is that this is the latest racing machine in the GT class that debuted earlier this year, so in GT3 circles, it’s kind of a big deal.

This is the latest vehicle in the 992 line, which we already have a car for in the 911 GT3 Cup. This is the 911 GT3 R. There’s a difference. Yes, there is a 911 GT3 R already. That one is the older one that released on iRacing two years ago. If you need a better visual, here’s what already exists on iRacing before next week:

  • Porsche 911 GT3 R (old one this new one is likely replacing)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)
  • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (991, legacy content since Cup 992 released)
  • Porsche 911 RSR
  • Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR
  • Porsche Mission R
The livery on the featured Porsche 911 GT3 R 992 is that of Pfaff Motorsports, a competing team in IMSA competition.

The Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup utilizes the 992 Cup. This 992 GT3 R is the same car that’s currently used in the ESL R1 on the Rennsport platform, and it also exists on Assetto Corsa Competizione as of April 2023. Also also, this car will be joining RaceRoom in July when that Porsche Pack content releases.

2023 Season 3 launches 6th June, and besides the new cars, you’ll also see Willow Springs and MotorLand Aragón, as well as a Dirt Refresh and other updates that are still to be announced.
