Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series returns with $500,000 in prizes

There is more than $500,000 in prizes up for grabs in this year’s iteration of the Skip Barber Formula iRacing Series. This iRacing series returns for 2022 next week and signups are open now.

The top prize is any sim racer’s dream, a drive in the real thing. This year’s champion will get a fully funded seat, for an entire season of competition in the real-world Skip Barber Formula Race Series.

Runner-up will get half of a season’s drive, while the third place overall will get one race in a real racing machine.

Instead of the old Skip Barber open-wheel car, this year the series will utilize the new iRacing Formula iR-04 which releases today (8th March 2022). New to iRacing, the car is similar to many Formula 4 specified cars around the globe.

The Skip Barber school has a similar seat, and Formula 4, in general, is one of the most popular ways to get started with a motorsports career.

It’s not a free-to-enter competition, however. Every week will have a $20 entry fee ($120 for the full season), just to try and qualify for the show. A full-season’s points are being kept for the grand prize, so the winner will need to essentially qualify and perform week-in and week-out.

The Top 20 qualifiers will move on to the featured race. Between qualifying and the event, sessions will be open for participants to test with real-world Skip Barber Racing School instructors. The race lengths have not yet been announced, but the first race will be on iRacing.com/live at 3:00 p.m. ET on Saturday, 20th March.

This series is only open to participants from the US, Canada and Mexico. Check out the prize list and the full schedule down below. Good luck to all that enter!
