rFactor 2’s GT3 cars get BoP’d

Avatar

Developers of the rFactor 2 simulation, Studio 397, have today revealed a new balance of performance (BoP) for their GT3 roster. The collection of GT3 spec cars now spans 13 unique cars (okay, in fairness, there are two Bentley Continentals), which is an incredibly impressive list but keeping the balance of each car in shape is quite the challenge.

Balance of Performance is important for competitive racing in sportscars. It’s often said that spec-series racing, where all of the drivers use the same cars, produces the best racing because everyone has equal opportunity. However, in our humble opinion, regulated BoP can aid racing by offering varied car shapes and characteristics.

Some cars may handle better, others are faster in a straight line or even have better fuel or tyre economy. The important part is making sure they balance out to make it fair for everyone in a race.

Studio 397 has taken a thorough approach to the new season’s BoP. The simulation’s engineers inspect physics data, telemetry and feedback from their team of test drivers to get it just right. Fingers crossed that it leads to great racing ahead of Season 3 of the GT Pro Series on rFactor 2!

The updates come as rFactor 2 prepares for the new season of their popular GT Pro series, due to start on 8th March 2021. The previous season had a little bit of a Callaway Corvette C7 vibe to it with almost all of the competitors favouring the American muscle because of it’s generous BoP. Evidently, this is no more.

The developers have also inspected and addressed various other parts of the cars. There have been some aerodynamic effect changes that should ultimately make the car lose less grip when following a competitor. These aero updates also affect how fast “exaggerated” sliding is – this will make the car more stable and smoother to drive.

The full changelog up of updates is available on the rFactor 2 website or you can read on below:
