Two-time Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen will be on the grid for the 6 Hours of Spa, the third round of the 2022-23 Le Mans Virtual Series.
The 34-time Grand Prix winner will be driving the #1 Team Redline LMP, sharing the car with reigning champion Jeffrey Rietveld and recent BMW Sim GT Cup champion Maximilian Benecke.
The squad is currently sitting second in the overall championship standings. Verstappen is also expected to join January’s 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, the season finale.
Compatriot Bent Viscaal, former FIA Formula 3 race winner and current European Le Mans Series competitor, will share the championship-leading #4 Floyd Vanwall-Burst with Jernej Simončič and Jesper Pedersen.
Former Formula 1 driver and current Andretti Autosport IndyCar star Romain Grosjean will also take part, lining up for his eponymous R8G Esports squad. He will lead the #18 car, with team-mates Martin Hemmingsen and Ulas Ozyildirim.
Fresh off the back of Gold at the FIA Motorsport Games Esports Cup, James Baldwin will once again be driving for the manufacturer-backed AMG Team Petronas Esports team, with Bono Huis and Graham Carroll.
Porsche is once again present with two LMPs run by Coanda, former rallycross winner and iRacing world champion Mitchell deJong and two-time Porsche TAG Heuer Esports Supercup champion Joshua Rogers amongst its driver roster.
In GTE, FIA F3 race winner Alexander Smolyar continues to compete, entering every round so far, teaming with Timotej Andonovski and Risto Kappet for R8G Esports. The trio won last time out at Monza.
Reigning category champions Team Redline BMW field Chris Lulham, Kevin Siggy and Enzo Bonito this time around. The Prodrive FYRA Esport combination, which finished second in the second round, is represented once again by Lasse Sørensen, Lasse Bak and Mikkel Gade.
The championship aims to blend the quickest sim racing professionals across multiple platforms with real-world motorsport stars. There are five races this season, culminating with the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, 14th January 2023.
Each pays points towards an overall crown in both LMP and GTE categories. Utilising the rFactor 2 simulation platform, dynamic weather, tyre wear, damage and fuel usage are all in use, alongside mandatory driver swaps.
Each team has entered four drivers, at least one of which must be FIA-rated. The Pro driver must take part in at least one race on the run-up to the 24 Hour event, and thus Verstappen and Grosjean have selected Spa.
The 6 Hours of Spa will be live on the Traxion.GG YouTube channel. Qualifying is from 6 pm GMT / 7 pm CET, Friday 4th November, while the race itself is on Saturday 5th November from 12.30 pm GMT / 1.30 pm CET.
