iRacing hotfix to “fundamentally improve” Caterham handling

Caterhams are tricky, sometimes spiky, race cars, especially in 420R trim on slicks. But they also convey body roll, have telepathic steering responses and communicate to the driver, especially in Academy spec.

Some iRacing members who were looking forward to the British sports cars on the platform (released earlier this week) were a little underwhelmed by their initial handling performance.

Within a day, the platform confirmed a hotfix for the models to change some of their characteristics, which will be released on the 11th September 2026.

According to the creators, this change will “allow the rear axles to translate fully” and “fundamentally improve the handling of both cars.” It will also zap a bug which kept the car stuck in the pitlane, too.

It begs the question, however, why were they released in their original form? Anyway, a welcome update for the latest DLC.

iRacing Season 4 11th September 2026 patch notes

  • Fix a client sim crash when scrubbing the VCR controls
  • Fix a client sim crash when minimising the sim
  • Update to the damage settings on the Caterham Academy & Caterham 420R rear suspension that allow the rear axles to translate fully
  • This will fundamentally improve the handling of both cars
  • This resolves the issue where it was sometimes impossible to pull out of the pits
