  • Three classic Renault F1 cars released for free in AMS 2
  • Hungaroring and Historic Track Pack Pt4 available as DLC
  • Michelin and Bridgestone tyre war commences in-game

New content has been released for Automobilista 2, with the Hungaroring, the fourth part of the sim’s Historic Track Pack and three classic Renault Formula 1 cars arriving.

The Renault machinery was initially slated as paid DLC, but due to a licensing imbroglio, it now appears free for all players. The Historic Track Pack Pt4 ($7.99) adds six historic track layouts to the game, while the Hungaroring DLC ($6.99)implements the venue for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The new content will be temporarily available to sample for free before reverting to a paid model later.

As well as content, AMS 2 has been updated to V1.6.9.8, which replicates F1’s infamous tyre war era, introduces Customizable Car Performance Scalars and re-adds standing water to the game.

Check out the full details below.

Hungaroring DLC and Historic Track Pack Pt4

Put simply, the Hungaroring DLC adds the modern-day version of Hungaroring to AMS 2. Located in Mogyoród, the venue has hosted the Hungarian Grand Prix since 1986, and despite its narrow and challenging layout, has remained a fixture of the F1 calendar ever since.

The fourth part of AMS 2’s Historical Track Pack adds six classic circuit configurations from the past, centred around the late ‘90s to the early noughties. These are:

  • Barcelona 1999
  • Barcelona 2001
  • Imola 2005
  • Indianapolis 2001
  • Spielberg 2001
  • Monza 2005 (Also included in the Premium Track Pack, Monza DLC and/or any other bundle that includes them)

Three Renault F1 cars and tyre wars

Three Renault F1 cars have been added to the game for free, including Fernando Alonso’s title-winning R25 and R26.

The more controversial R28 is also present (for more information on ‘Crash-gate’, check out our companion article), with the cars being added to the Formula V10 Gen3, Formula V8 Gen1 and Formula V8 Gen2 classes, respectively.

Perhaps even more impressively, developer Reiza Studios has implemented Michelin and Bridgestone tyres for two of these classes, replicating the tyre wars of the eras.

The French Renaults are all appropriately Michelin-shod, while their generic class rivals use Bridgestones.

An advanced tyre graining mechanic is currently being worked on in the background at Reiza, and should see the light of day in AMS 2’s next build (V1.6.9.9). It’s also likely we’ll see some tyre wars in the game’s 2004 – 2005 Prototypes GT cars in future…

Customizable Car Performance Scalars and standing water

Players can now customise power, weight and drag figures for cars in both single and multiplayer, helping define a bespoke Balance of Performance calculation.

The game’s LiveTrack weather system has also been updated, which sees the return of racing line puddles to the game, which were initially removed due to vague ‘gameplay reasons’. This should lead to a larger overhaul of AI and physics in the game’s upcoming V1.7 update.

Licensing update

We reported on Reiza’s unfortunate licensing situation last week. Essentially, to retain a McLaren Racing licence, Reiza would have to remove Brabham, Lotus and Renault branding from its current crop of historic Formula 1 machinery, turning them into generic cars instead.

The latest update from the Brazilian developer suggests this is exactly what will happen, with Studio Head and Project Manager Renato Simioni stating that “our priority is to continue with McLaren”.

However, he also assured players who own the previously licensed content from Brabham, Lotus and Renault will still have it when the content becomes unbranded – the restrictions only apply to new customers.
