When Hot Wheels Infinite Rush was unveiled at Summer Game Fest, it was slated for release on 24th September, with early access starting three days earlier for players who purchase the Ultimate Edition.

This is no longer the case, but, mercifully, it hasn’t been delayed. A new trailer reveals that the open-world racer will launch earlier than planned on 10th September, with early access starting on 7th September.

In a new direction for Milestone’s diminutive diecast car games, Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is set to take the series in a new open-world direction.

A new trailer showcases Infinite Rush’s four free-roaming islands. Wheelswood takes place in an urban city with skyscrapers and narrow streets, while Tentacle Bay is a scenic setting with sandy beaches and coastal routes.

Gearville, on the other hand, is set in a desert featuring dusty canyon roads and industrial sites. Finally, Drifty Temples is inspired by East Asia, with neon-lit city streets, ancient temples and twisty drift routes. A giant creature inhabits each environment, including a Kong Kong-style gorilla climbing a skyscraper and a giant octopus.

With the ability to explore the environments in free roam, Infinite Rush is a departure from Milestone’s track-based Hot Wheels Unleashed games. However, you can still race on traditional Hot Wheels stunt tracks, which are seamlessly integrated into the environment.

While the four locations are not interconnected, there will be an option to fast-travel between them.

Alongside standard races, events range from Daredevil challenges, where players chase down vehicles to unlock them, to Delivery Stunts requiring players to take a vehicle to a destination without damaging it. Stuntman activities have you try to smash as many objects as possible, while Tourist challenges task you with taking photos with specific requirements.

Find the Flame sees you attempt to reach a destination without following a set route, and there are various collectables and Stunt challenges scattered around the map, including drift zones and boost sections.

As for the car roster, Infinite Rush will launch with over 150 vehicles across four classes, including Ferrari’s Hot Wheels game debut.

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush is shaping up to be a fun, casual alternative to Forza Horizon 6 that has the potential to be particularly popular with younger players. You can find out our initial impressions of Milestone’s new open-world racer in our hands-on preview.
