The eSports WRC World Final presented by AGON by AOC, to give the series its official name, is set to take place on the Wednesday and Thursday preceding the WRC’s EKO Acropolis Rally. Using Kylotonn’s WRC 10, the top eight in the regular 2022 WRC Esports season will qualify for the Grand Final Playoffs on the 7th of September, with eight whittled down to four for the following day’s Grand Final.
The WRC Esports Grand Final will take place at the Athens Olympic Complex, most likely in Athens’ Olympic Velodrome – scene of Brit Chris Hoy’s epic cycling Olympic gold medal and World Record in the Kilo Time Trial.
WRC Esports 2022 points leader and 2020 Grand Final winner Sami-Joe Abi Nakhle has already qualified for the Grand Final Playoffs, with 2021 Grand Final winner Lohann Blanc likely to join the Lebanese teenager in Athens.
Blanc’s Race Clutch teammates Lillian Richard and recent Rally Estonia winner Jon Bebnowicz-Harris are also likely to qualify, with absent championship contender Kazuho Iwata also looking likely to stay in the Playoff spots.
Astonishingly, 2021 winner Blanc took home a Toyota GR Yaris road car as his prize, confirming that the WRC takes its esports series seriously. This year’s event is set to be another cracker.
