Grand Theft Auto VI’s release date has slipped once again, with Rockstar Games announcing a delay to 19th November, 2026.
The delay will enable the developer to “finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
“Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026,” Rockstar Games wrote in a statement posted on social media.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realise has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.
“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern-day Vice City.”
This is the second time GTA 6 has been delayed. When the first trailer dropped in December 2023, it was slated for an autumn 2025 release, only to be pushed back to 26th May, 2026.
Delays are not uncommon for blockbuster titles from Rockstar Games. Its last title, Red Dead Redemption 2, was also delayed by around a year.
The first new entry since 2013, GTA 6 marks a return to the South Florida-inspired Vice City in a modern setting, with a new story following lovers-turned-criminals Jason and Lucia. Naturally, vehicles will be central in the game’s set pieces, with trailers previewing new and returning cars.
It’s no secret that developers are adjusting their game release schedules to avoid launching near the goliath that is GTA 6.
Rennsport releases out of Early Access next week, but its developers were nervous about Grand Theft Auto VI’s prominence when it was initially expected to launch this year.
“We’re still holding our breath because there’s this other title releasing this year…. Something with a six in the name,” said Rennsport Creative Director, Kim Orremark, earlier this year.
Whether Forza Horizon 6’s release date will change next year in response to the delay remains to be seen.
Grand Theft Auto VI release date
Grand Theft Auto VI will release on 19th November, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC port is yet to be confirmed.
