  • Volvo returns to the Gran Turismo games
  • Classic Honda race car leads latest update
  • A handful of new races has also been added
  • Five new engine swap combinations available

From VTEC buzz-boxes to a Japanese racing hero, Gran Turismo 7’s latest game update runs the full gamut of Polyphony Digital’s imagination.

Adding the Honda NSX GT500 that won the All Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (now Super GT) championship in 2000 and pairing it with an early-’90s Volvo cupboard on wheels is peak Gran Turismo.

Alongside the sublime, and ridiculous, is an under-rated Honda hot hatchback. Before the first Civic Type R there was the SiR with its redline set just north of 8,000 rpm. The VTEC really does ‘kick in’.

The rost roster of spectacular Nissan sportscars has also increased, with an R31 Skyline – the predecessor to the all-conquered R32 GT-R.

Gran Turismo 7 Volvo V40

Perhaps the strangest addition is a second Volvo – the Swedish brand now returning to the long-running gaming series for the first time since 2013. A V40 is a mundane family car based upon the second-generation Ford Focus, and this is even the automatic.

  • Honda Civic SiR・II (EG) ’93 – Used Cars – 52,100 credits
  • Honda NSX GT500 ’00 – Legend Cars – 1,500,000 credits
  • Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31) ’87 – Used Cars – 176,600 credits
  • Volvo 240 SE Estate ʼ93 – Used Cars – 40,800 credits
  • Volvo V40 T5 R-Design ʼ13 – Brand Central – 40,000 credits

World Circuits events and Café Extra Menu

Alongside the quintet of cars, four themed single-player races have been added to the World Circuits area – each fitting for use with some of the new vehicles

  • European Sunday Cup 400 – Kyoto Driving Park – Yamagiwa
  • Japanese FF Challenge 450 – Autopolis International Racing Course, Short Course
  • Japanese FR Challenge 450 – Autodromo Lago Maggiore, West
  • World Touring Car 800 – Circuit de Sainte-Croix A

The Café’s Extra Menu, where you unlock a reward for owning three specific models, is based around Japanese GT cars, including the latest Honda.

Rounding out with some tweaks

Outside of the latest content, quality-of-life changes are minimal. They include further car designer discussions at the Café, adding Volvo to the list of marques within Brand Central, adjusting the effect of mechanical damage on 15 vehicles and updating the prices of cars in Legend Cars according to Hagerty valuations.

The full changelog is below. Don’t forget, there’s an in-person Gran Turismo World Series event in July, as the series visits Canada.
