F1 25, Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds nominated for The Game Awards

It’s that time of year again. With The Game Awards less than a month away, the nominees for the annual ceremony hosted by Geoff Keighley have been unveiled.  

Celebrating notable game releases over the last 12 months, racing is often underrepresented, with the genre sharing the same awards category as sports games like EA Sports FC and NBA 2K.

This year, three out of the five Best Sports / Racing nominations are racing titles: F1 25, Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, alongside EA Sports FC 26 and Rematch.

Mario Kart World and Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds are also nominated for the Best Family Game category alongside Donkey Kong Bananza, Lego Party!, Lego Voyagers and Split Fiction.

Last year, F1 24 was the only racing nominee, but it was beaten by EA FC 25.

More racing games were represented in The Game Awards 2023, however, with F1 23, Forza Motorsport, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 and The Crew Motorfest nominated in the Best Sports / Racing category alongside EA Sports FC 24. Forza Motorsport was crowned the winner that year and also won an award for Innovation in Accessibility.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong and Kingdom Come: Deliverance make up the Game of the Year nominations.

Public voting for each category is now open on The Game Awards website. This is combined with a jury panel of media professionals and influencers, which accounts for 90% of the vote to decide the winners.

The winners will be announced during The Game Awards 2025 ceremony on 11th December, 2025.
