After a high profile move from Mercedes to Ferrari in the offseason, the 2017 F1 Esports champion Brendon Leigh has now joined a call to arms to encourage new entrants for the 2021 Ferrari Esports Series.
The esports championship is currently open for registrations and the first of four qualifying stages begin on 18th April. These will be followed by four qualification races which will be streamed on Ferrari’s Twitch channel. Yes, Ferrari has a Twitch channel!
This will narrow the contestants down into a 48 driver field who fight it out in the Series and into a Grand Final later in the year. The winner will join the Ferrari Driver Academy Esports Team and become an official esports driver.
“Being a professional esports driver as part of the Ferrari team in Maranello has changed my life,” said Brendon, a current Ferrari Driver Academy member.
“If you love sim racing and want to test your skills amongst the elite drivers of Europe, then the Ferrari Esport Series is a great place to start, and I encourage talented sim racing drivers to get involved.
“You never know – it could be you that is in with the chance of driving with us on the FDA team next year.”
Becoming a Ferrari Driver Academy Esports Team member, as the winner of the esports competition will become, is more than just receiving a free Ferrari branded cap and t-shirt. Brendon, for example, receives coaching and driver training from Ferrari in Italy. You become a true Ferrari team member just like him.
You only have a few days left to register for the series – that uses the original Assetto Corsa on PC in partnership with Thrustmaster – and join the 10,000 people already entered.
