EA Sports WRC continues to expand, with the next DLC pack adding six new cars, 12 new stages, 17 liveries and more later this month.

Dubbed the ‘Le Maestros Content Pack,’ the latest DLC focuses on the most successful French teams and drivers between the late 1990s and 2010s.

“The French domination of the World Rally Championship has embedded itself in history with its unrivalled drama,” said Codemasters Producer Matthew Battison.

“We’re excited to bring this exciting period of racing to life in-game with the Le Maestros DLC, which celebrates the rallies and the legends behind the wheel.”

While the YouTube teaser hinted at new stages and liveries, Codemasters has confirmed the DLC will add six new cars – including some deep cuts that rally enthusiasts will relish.

On the topic of ‘maestros’ the vehicles look to be themed around the two most successful drivers in real-world history – French drivers Sébastien Loeb and Sébastien Ogier.

Joining the WRC variant already in the game, one of our favourites is the Citroën Xsara Kit Car.

Debuting in the 1998 Rally Catalunya and based on the Xsara road car, the two-litre, 2WD kit car proved formidable against its 4WD competitors thanks to its lightweight construction and wider body – much to the dismay of rival WRC teams.

Remarkably, it went on to win the 1999 Rally Catalunya and Tour de Corse in the hands of Philippe Bugalski. Complaints from WRC teams led to stricter weight and power restrictions, preventing the Xsara Kit Car from entering the following season.

To meet regulations, Citroen entered a new 4WD variant, the Xsara T4, in the 2000 French Rally Championship, where it won all seven events. It paved the way for the Xsara WRC, which won the 2003, 2004, and 2005 manufacturers titles.

While the Xsara Kit Car can tackle any surface in EA Sports WRC, it only competed on tarmac stages in the real championship.

Another highlight is the Citroën C3 WRC, introduced in the 2017 WRC season. This season saw regulation changes breathe new life into the sport, resulting in faster and more powerful cars with outlandish aero designs harking back to the Group B era.

Nine-time champion Loeb drove the C3 to victory at the 2018 Rally Catalunya. Strangely, Loeb’s name is removed from the side window in EA Sports WRC, with a space above his co-driver. Whether this is simply an error or due to a licensing conflict is unknown.

Four more French rally cars round off the new car additions: the Citroën C2 R2 Max, Citroën DS3 WRC 2012, Volkswagen Polo R WRC 2013 and Peugeot 206 S1600.

The DS3 was the last car Loeb took to a world title (in 2012), while the Polo was the first car Ogier won a world title in (2013).

Additionally, the DLC adds 17 liveries for new and existing cars, including new Citroen C2 S1600 and Ford Fiesta WRC 2019 liveries. We think we’ve spotted a 2005 livery for the four-wheel-drive Xsara too.

There are also two challenging new routes to tackle, split into 12 stages: Briançonnet (14.55km) in Monte Carlo and Fafe (11.18 km) in Vodafone Rally de Portugal.

The French-themed DLC also includes 16 exclusive Moments, allowing fans to relieve memorable scenarios such as the Citroën Xsara Kit Car’s spectacular 1-2 finish in Corsica and the Citroën C4 WRC’s dramatic victory in the 2010 Rally Portugal.

The Le Maestros Content Pack will be released on 28th January and is included in the WRC 24 Season Expansion Bundle at no extra cost. It will also be sold separately, with pricing yet to be confirmed. It follows the 2024 Locations and Car Content Pack released last October.

A third and final DLC, called the ‘Hard Chargers Content Pack’ is slated for Spring, with contents and a release date to be confirmed.
