We love the depth that both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 can ever, as we get lost for hours on end in the world of haulage.

But, they can also be a little intimidating. Brilliant, but maybe a tad overwhelming.

Fret not, like EA SPORTS WRC’s Rally School or licence tests in Gran Turismo, a Driving Academy is in development.

Developer SCS Software has announced that the new feature will include a set of challenges to get drivers up to speed. Starting out slow, one area which can be particularly bamboozling is how to reverse with a trailer attached, something the academy should teach.

As you progress, the difficulty is set to ramp up, with tasks said to replicate those of real-world training scenarios.

The initial offering will provide diagrams, explanations and pointers, but is not a complete game mode, yet.

“We are testing the waters with Driving Academy, but if we get positive feedback from our community, we would love to continue creating additional scenarios and special challenges in the future that real-life truck drivers may encounter on the road,” said SCS.

The Driving Academy is the first feature announced for an upcoming version 1.52 update for both simulations. No release date has been announced for the patch, yet. It follows 1.51, which was released earlier this month.
