Italian sim racing peripheral manufacturer Cube Controls has teased an official sim-based collaboration with Mercedes-AMG in recent months, with Traxion.GG enjoying an early version of the firm’s latest steering wheel at last year’s SimRacing Expo in Nuremberg.
Finally, however, Cube Controls has officially confirmed its new PC-only Mercedes-AMG – GT Edition Sim Wheel will be released this week, formally announcing it will cost €709 (excluding VAT and shipping).
Mercedes-AMG’s presence in the sim racing marketplace follows on from the likes of BMW, Porsche, Bentley and McLaren’s own licenced steering wheels in recent times, albeit the Cube Controls example is priced very competitively in comparison.
While the GT Edition Sim Wheel shares a lot of similarities with the steering wheel found in the Track Series, it’s far more usable, thanks to two rotary switches and two joysticks in place of four of the Track Edition’s face buttons.
The Track Edition is a little plain in comparison to the sim version
This means the sim steering wheel has at least 10 buttons with RGB backlights, two rotary encoders, two funky switches and another set of rotary switches to suit sim racers’ thumbs.
The wheel is on the large side – being 320mm in diameter – but it is set to feature a high-quality aluminium and carbon fibre finish, replete with LED TC and ABS lights for extra sensory feedback.
The Cube Controls Mercedes-AMG – GT Edition Sim Wheel will be available to purchase from the Cube Controls website on the 29th of September 2023, 12 PM CET, with those who sign up for the Cube Controls newsletter granted early access.
