Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Season 3 was originally set to introduce a new ‘Clan Warfare’ mode. However, these plans were postponed last year, with KT Racing instead pledging to make changes and add requested features that “speak to fans of the series.”

Set to launch on 19th March, the revised Season 3 will add several fan-requested features to the troubled open-world racer, with a trailer shown during the Nacon Connect presentation previewing what fans can expect.

Rejoice, Test Drive Unlimited fans: car delivery missions are returning. A staple of the Test Drive Unlimited series, convoy missions task you with delivering cars to a destination for a cash reward while keeping them as pristine as possible.

If they play like previous delivery missions, you’ll be penalised whenever you damage the car. Wreck it beyond repair, and you’ll fail the mission. A trailer released during Nacon Connect shows the player being handed the keys to a Koenigsegg Agera RS and told to “take good care” of the supercar during delivery, implying there will be penalties for damage.

As well as car delivery missions, Season 3 will introduce a new ‘Navigation mode.’ Like The Crew Motorfest’s Vintage Garage playlist events, this mode sees you select a destination and set the fastest time without relying on GPS navigation for directions.

In another highly requested feature, a solo mode will let players race against AI opponents only. Currently, every event requires you to wait for other players to join online lobbies, even if you want to race solo. It’s a welcome addition, but it shouldn’t be mistaken for an offline mode – solo races will still require an online connection.

This isn’t the only quality-of-life improvement. Players will be able to pause and restart races in solo events, something that wasn’t possible before due to the online connection requirement.  The AI difficulty can also be changed, with bonus XP awarded for racing in higher difficulties.

As Solar Crown’s social media teased last week, Season 3 will add three new cars to the roster: the retro-inspired Aston Martin Valour, DeLorean DMC-12 and Ferrari LaFerrari Aperta.

Furthermore, Clan HQ shops will be updated with custom license plates and new rim designs. Finally, Season 3 will add new weekly live events, including a 10-year celebration of the McLaren 570S, while the Solar Pass level cap will increase from 25 to 50, allowing players to unlock more rewards than before.

Overall, Season 3 sounds like another step in the right direction after Season 2 introduced a new map set in Ibiza Town, with several welcome gameplay changes and car delivery missions that will hopefully recapture the spirit of classic TDU games.

That said, Solar Crown will soon face stiff competition on PS5, with Forza Horizon 5 heading to Sony’s console next month.
