A new specialised sim racing website launched yesterday (12th April 2023), aiming to create a safe and trustworthy place for sim racing enthusiasts to buy and sell their used equipment.
Created by professional GT3 racing driver David Perel – founder of the SimGrid online racing platform and the Coach Dave Academy engineering, coaching and set-up service – thesimtrader.com is both free to join and advertise on.
“Getting started in sim racing is expensive and finding affordable gear can be difficult. So, I want to lower the barrier to entry for people coming into our industry or for those who are moving up from controller console games,” said Perel on his nascent venture.
“We need a consolidated marketplace for sim racers. Right now it’s all spread between eBay, Facebook Marketplace etc, which makes it even more difficult for new sim racers to find what they need at an affordable price.
“So, with SimTrader I am hoping to solve those two problems. Essentially I want to make Sim Racing as accessible as possible – that’s my long-term dream. And I hope SimTrader facilitates that,” he concluded.
Each free listing is displayed on the site for 30 days, with users able to pay to boost or promote their ad for additional exposure. Although thesimtrader.com is in its early beta phase there are already several interesting ads, including a Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3 signed by ex-DTM champion Bruno Spengler.
