Assetto Corsa breaks concurrent player records nearly 10 years after release
Assetto Corsa has just hit its peak concurrent player count on Steam, with 19,661 virtual drivers enjoying the Kunos Simulazioni-developed title's unique blend of realistic physics and mods.
Perennial sim racing favourite Assetto Corsa has just reached its apex of popularity in the last 24 hours, achieving a lifetime high of 19,661 concurrent players on Steam.
The astonishing figure, highlighted by sim racing streamer and all-round good egg Mr. Git, is all the more surprising given Kunos Simulazioni’s game will be 10 years old come December, with its unique blend of moddability and realism striking a chord with racing enthusiasts.
Although many of AC’s mods are of reputable quality and origin, the sim is home to several dedicated modding groups that produce bespoke content from the ground up, with some individuals doing such a good job that Kunos have hired them.
Visual mods like the Custom Shaders Patch, Sol and Pure have all enhanced the AC experience on PC, backed up by essential utilities like Content Manager and Helicorsa.
Why is Assetto Corsa so popular?
But why are the concurrent player numbers so high for AC now?
Well, thanks to modders, AC is constantly updated and refreshed, giving new and returning players more incentive to play. The game and all of its DLC content are regularly on sale too, with AC currently available on Steam for just £1.54 until 27 June.
When you include all of its DLC packs – equating to a total of 178 cars and 19 laser-scanned tracks – the price works out at roughly two iRacing tracks, which is incredible value when you consider the league racing and modding potential.
Sim racing platforms such as Low Fuel Motorsport, Grid Finder and SimGrid are also compatible with AC, meaning players can easily race against like-minded drivers of similar ability, with or without mods.
