The second round of the ADAC SimRacing Expo Asetek SimSports Community Trophy moved on from the tight confines of the Norisring, where Leon Harhoff stole an early advantage over his competitors, to the Nürburgring’s Sprint layout, where a depleted field plotted a comeback.

Originally, the championship was to split the 40 qualified drivers into two races of 20, with the fastest 10 in each group going on to race in a feature race. However, with only 13 drivers turning up for Round 2, a single 20-minute sprint was scheduled, with a drop score system put in place for the remaining three events.

Harhoff again drew first blood by taking pole position for race one, with Mats Windhausen joining him on the front row. At barely a tenth of a second off Harhoff’s scratch time, Windhausen had potentially set up an intriguing battle.

As the lights went green Harhoff surged into an early lead, with Windhausen under pressure from third-placed Timur Cat. This gave Harhoff the breathing room to build a gap to his opponents while Windhausen fought off the advances of both Cat and fourth-placed Igor Wąsowski.

With around 14 minutes left to run, Wąsowski misjudged his braking point into Turn 1 and tipped Cat into a spin, allowing Windhausen to consolidate second position, still some three seconds off Harhoff out front.

Oskar Soprych picked up the pieces to sit third but was under heavy pressure from Wąsowski right up until the final lap, where a bold move at Kurzanbindung was enough to claim the last spot on the rostrum.
